What do we teach?

Long are the days of the librarian story teller. Well, not exactly, but it's changed! The students are still coming to the library, checking out books, and hearing great literature but they're also doing so much more! Kindergarten - second grade comes to the library during a weekly scheduled visit that usually lasts 30 minutes. Sometimes the time is extended due to the extensiveness of the project or lesson. Third - fifth grade comes to the library on a flexible basis. Teachers and the librarian collaborate to plan a unit that covers VA SOLs and AASL standards. Flexible access means the class can come as little or as often as they need to complete the project. Ex: once a week for 4 weeks, twice a week for 2 weeks, every day for a week, etc. Students can also come in all day on a flexible basis to use computers, do research, work in our maker's space, read, etc.

ALL students are encouraged to come to the library at any time during the day to check out new materials! You do not have to wait until your library day to get new books. Please come!
